Berkeley Pools: Take the Plunge was an organized press event at the now defunct Willard Pool located at the Willard Middle School in South Berkeley. The purpose of the gathering was to draw attention to the upcoming municipal election (June 8) and to the bond measure to upgrade the four (4) city pools.
Those "taking the plunge" were Mayor Tom Bates, and Council Members Kriss Worthington and Linda Maio - fully clothed - in to the Willard Pool with the Barracudas youth team members. Calif. State Senate Representative (Dist. 9) Loni Hancock also spoke to the crowd of swimmers and Measure C Bond supporters. The event took place during the Swimathon held at Willard Pool to benefit the YES on Measure C. The failed bond measure resulted in the lost of both the Willard and the Warm pool at the high school.
