A distinguished delegation of prominent Cubans came to Berkeley to participate in an historic public dialogue with their counterparts in various academic disciplines and professions at Berkeley March 19-21 1998.
The conference opened with the Oakland Youth Orchestra with Isabella Eksteen at Berkeley Community Theater. Cultural performancs included jazz artist Jane Bunnett with the The Spirits of Havana ’98 , singer/songwriter Carlos Varela, an Afro-Cuban jazz ensemble featuring Pancho Quinto; and writer Alice Walker and Cuban poet Nancy Morejon reading their poetry.
