NOTE: This video recording was the first in a series of Berkeley Strawberry Canyon Academic Walks. These walking lectures were focused around the adverse impacts to the ecology of Strawberry Canyon from both U.C. Berkeley and the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory’s developments and fences. The community walks were also organized to bring about greater awareness to the active 2006 community tree-sit at the Berkeley Memorial Stadium’s Oak Grove on the UC campus. This is why these academic walks began at the Oak Grove.
It should be noted that 572 days after this recording, U.C. Berkeley fenced off the Memorial Oak Grove, extracted all the tree-sitters and chopped down most of the trees to begin their construction of an additional athletic facility.
