The Last Appeal for the Berkeley Stadium Memorial Oak Grove
This BTV broadcast of the City Council Special Meeting on July 24, 2008 was the last of many attempts to save the Memorial Oak Grove from UC Berkeley’s construction crews. It was impossible to foresee that this beautiful living grove would be reduced to a mere garden amenity for a UCB sports facility. Even more unimaginable is how the few trees left standing on the site would then be renamed The Goldman Grove for two UCB donors.
As was seen in 2008, trees are easily cut down, but covering up the decimation of the Stadium Oak Grove and this part of the Berkeley war memorial HISTORY is much more difficult to do. The name change was that first step.
