UC Berkeley Police Fence in Memorial Oak Grove Tree-sitters
Berkeley, August 29, 2007

The University of California ordered a fence constructed around the Memorial Oak Grove on the Berkeley campus today. This move would allow the campus police to restrict the tree-sit ground support team from giving food and water to the tree-sitters. Mitchell Celaya, the Berkeley campus assistant police chief publicly stated that the fence went up to protect the tree-sitters from the thousands of football fans that were expected to attend Saturday's first game of the 2007 season.

One of the leaders of the community tree-sit Zachary Running Wolf refuted this claim. He noted that the oak grove occupation has been a 271st day of non-violent protest and the university actions were not justified. Berkeley's Internet NEWS
