Program Notes: The New China Trio, the first prize winner of the 1996 Yellow Springs Music Competition, was formed in 1,994. The three talented Chinese instrumentalists, Si-jie Ling (piano), Wei He (violin), and Ming Xue (cello), started the group at the University of Texas at Austin where they all received full scholarships. In the Spring of 1995, they made their first public appearance and attracted immediate public attention. In the Summer of the same year, they were invited to Manchester International Music Festival where they were received with overwhelming enthusiasm.
During their study at the University of Texas at Austin, they were coached by the prominent cellist and chamber musician, Professor Paul Olefsky, and Korean born piano collaborator, Professor Heasook Rhee. They also had many master classes with world renowned artists, such as Arnold Steinhardt, David Soyer, Ruth Laredo and Joel Krosnick. The Trio also received the Schaad Prize from the 25th Annual Carmel, California, Chamber Music competition.
